Palestine Pres. Pope Francis discuss Mideast peace process


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) VATICAN CITY, Dec 3 (KUNA) -- Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas held talks with Pope Francis in Vatican City on Monday on Palestinian reconciliation, efforts to revive the peace process and status of Jerusalem.

Pope Francis received Abbas and held cordial talks, the Vatican said in a statement to the press, and highlighted "positive role" of Christians and activities of the Church within the Palestinian community, in line with a bilateral agreement in 2015.

Talks dealt with Palestinian reconciliation, jump-start the peace process between the Palestinians and Israelis with the aim of achieving a two-state solutions, it said.

The two leaders asserted need of maintaining identity of Jerusalem, said the statement, and they discussed regional conflicts.

Abbas arrived in Rome earlier for talks with Italian and Vatican leaders. (end) mn.bs
