New species of lobster found in Omani waters


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries (MoAF) has said that a new species of lobster Japanese blunthorn(Pallinustus waguensis) has been found in the Sea of Oman.

In an announcement on its Twitter account, MoAF said, 'This lobster variety was found by an Omani fisherman off the coast of Seeb at a depth of 70-85m. This variety measures 11.5-14cm in length and weighs 48-109g.'

MoAF said that the species is mostly found on rocky seabed or coral reefs at 100-200m. 'The new species belongs to the Palinuridae family (Kubo, 1963).'

The ministry said that geographically this species is found in the western Indian Ocean and territorial waters located between Japan, China and Taiwan and off India's coasts.
