Amman, Nov. 19 (Petra) - President of Macedonia, Gjorge Ivanov, on Monday visited the Lower House of Parliament and met with Speaker, Atef Tarawneh, as part of his official visit to the Kingdom, which he began on Sunday with talks with His Majesty King Abdullah II.
During the visit, the Macedonian president reiterated the importance of enhancing relations between the two countries in the economic, political, security and military fields.
He expressed his country's appreciation for the great role the Kingdom plays in the refugee crisis, and lauded its stance of pushing forward the Middle East peace process and fighting extremist ideologies through a holistic strategy.
Tarawneh stressed the importance of bilateral cooperation that King Abdullah II and Ivanov had discussed, through laying the groundwork for cooperation in economic and investment fields.
The House chief said Jordan is looking forward to boosting cooperation between the two countries' parliaments "in a manner that positively reflects on their stance on regional issues, including the Palestinian cause".
"The Palestinian cause is the core of the conflict in the region," he stated, adding: "We believe in the two-state solution as an option for peace, as His Majesty King Abdullah II has consistently affirmed, and we request your contribution by promoting this solution to the European Community as it is the only way to spare the generations of the region from wars and destruction."
The Speaker highlighted the investment facilities Jordan's economy offers, pointing to promising sectors such as tourism, agriculture, technology and pharmaceutical industry, urging Macedonia to encourage its businessmen to invest in the Kingdom and to benefit from industrial estate products.
He spoke about the two countries' exports, pointing to profitable investment opportunities and stressing the importance of facilitating work visas for Jordanian businessmen.
On the Syrian crisis, Tarawneh said that Jordan had received about 1.3 million refugees, which had overburdened the Kingdom's national economy, adding that international aid would only cover a third of the refugees' needs. He called for Macedonian help for refugee-hosting countries.
