England legend Wayne Rooney played what was his last match for the national team. This saw him getting his 120th cap for England.

Rooney, in an interview, has said that Harry Kane can break his goal-scoring record for England.

Before the match began, Harry Kane, who is the current captain of the England team, made a presentation along with FA Chairman Greg Clarke for Rooney.

Later, during an interview, Rooney said that he, himself, had asked Kane to give him the award since he believes the 25-year-old can go past his tally of 53.

Till date, Kane has scored 19 goals for England.

Reception

The match saw Wembley vociferously cheering for Rooney.

After he replaced former Manchester United team-mate Jesse Lingard in the 57th minute, England fans chanted "Shoot!" every time he got the ball.

A moment came during the stoppage time when Rooney received the ball at the edge of the penalty area but failed to convert it.

"They gave me a great reception," said Rooney.

Kane is the perfect successor to Rooney

Without any doubt, Harry Kane is the best goal-scorer England have, at the moment. He is the perfect player to take Rooney's baton forward.

Kane had mesmerized with his performances in the World Cup in 2018.

He was also on top with Tottenham last season.

England's current captain has big shoes to fill, but he looks ready and capable of the challenge.
