Banks request to enter Africa's agribusiness

(MENAFN) African banks, insurance establishments and investors have been facing up to relax their strict requirements for the funding of emerging agricultural business projects on the continent.

Industry specialists made the clarion call during an agribusiness debate at the opening Africa Investment Forum at the Sandton Convention Centre, in Johannesburg on Thursday.

Panellists in the debate stated this was one of various bottlenecks needed to be cleared for the field to flourish on the continent.

Among the challenges, they emphasized, were that economic organizations remained sceptical of investing in small-scale farmers due to the supposed risk linked with them.
