Azerbaijani scientists read genome of local pomegranate variety for first time (PHOTO)

For the first time in the world, Azerbaijani scientists have read the genome of the Azerbaijani pomegranate variety 'Guleysha', President of Azerbaijan's National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) Academician Akif Alizade said.
He made the remarks at a scientific-practical conference 'Multidisciplinary Problems of Pomegranate Cultivation and Yield', which was held in Goychay District, ANAS said in a message Nov. 2.
Academician Alizade said that the genome data of this pomegranate variety was registered by the US National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI).
Azerbaijan is considered the only country where all varieties of pomegranate grow.
