Enriching Middle East Economic Future Conf. kicks off in Qatar


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) DOHA, Oct 30 (KUNA) -- The 13th conference on Enriching the Middle East Economic Future kicked off on Tuesday in Doha, Qatar with the participation of experts coming from 70 countries and organizations.
Governor of Qatar Central Bank Sheikh Abdulla Bin Saoud Al-Thani said in the opening speech today that the conference sheds light on the economic future of the Middle East region, which has a strategic importance worldwide, It will also tackle the latest economic, commercial and developmental issues globally, he said.
The last 12 sessions of this conference greatly contributed to exchanging ideas and opinions between the participating parties coming from the Middle East, Norther Africa, Asia, or the United States, he added.
The conference is held this year during difficult and complicated circumstances, as it will discuss vital and important issues during its seminars and workshops, he added.
The participating experts are working hardly to form a positive joint vision to encounter the escalating problems and crises around the world, and especially in the Middle East, he said.
Qatar Central Bank Governor citing the International Monetary Fund (IMF) reports as showing the growth rate of the Middle East and North Africa region of low performance in the gross domestic product (GDP), as it recorded the lowest developing rate among the developing countries.
He also tackled a modern study conducted by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), which indicated that the Middle East and North Africa region come at the last rank among the developing countries regarding the number of companies that offer training courses to its employees.
He also mentioned the brain drain due to bad employment measures, and absence of training and rehabilitation.
The two-day event is organized by the Permanent Committee for Organizing Conferences at Qatar's Ministry of Foreign Affairs in cooperation with the Center for Middle East Development (CMED) University of California - Los Angeles.
The conference's workshops will focus on many issues including the economic future of the Asian countries in the Middle East, namely (Japan, India and China), as well as the new regional powers in Turkey and Syria.
They will also discuss the women status in the Gulf and Middle East regions, effect of customs taxes on the region, the major powers in the Middle East, the upcoming United States elections, bilateral or multilateral immigration policies, and cyber security, besides many other matters.
