Palestinian president accepts credentials of new envoy

Ramallah, Oct. 18 (Petra)- Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Thursday accepted the credentials of the Head of the Jordanian Representation Office to Palestine, Mohammed Shabib Abu Windi.

The ceremony was attended by Secretary General of the Palestinian Presidency Tayeb Abdul Rahim and Minister of Foreign Affairs Riyad al-Maliki.

Later, Minister al-Maliki received, at the Ministry's headquarters in Ramallah, a copy of the credentials of Abu Windi.

During the meeting, al-Maliki praised the historical ties between the two brotherly countries and the role of His Majesty King Abdullah II in defending the Palestinian cause and the Islamic and Christian sites in Jerusalem at all international arenas, stressing the importance of cooperation and coordination between the two brotherly countries in various fields.

For his part, Abu Windi stressed the depth of the historical ties between the two brotherly countries, stressing the need for full bilateral coordination between the two countries in various fields.

He reiterated Jordan's support for Palestinian people to establish their independent state on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with the international legitimacy resolutions, highlighting the role of the Kingdom in the custodianship over Islamic holy sites in Jerusalem.
