Iraq rejects citizens' obligatory deportation from EU

(MENAFN) The Iraqi government is against any deportation of its citizens from EU countries if it is against their own will, country's foreign ministry said.

The ministry stated Iraqi ambassador to Sweden, Ahmed Kamali, had held a meeting with Swedish officials and re-affirmed Baghdad's stance on the issue.

He claimed that the emigrants must be given a chance because most of them will return to their own country once security and living condition is improved.

Following Islamic State (IS) overran Iraq and took control of vast territories in 2014, hundreds of thousands escaped the country, joining the influx of Syrian refugees to seek a better life in the EU countries.
