Qatar- Various activities lined up for International Youth Day

DOHA: The Department of Youth Affairs at the Ministry of Culture and Sports will celebrate on Sunday the International Youth Day, which falls on August 12 each year through organising various activities in clubs, sports centres, youth initiatives and girls' centres. The Ministry also organises a special celebration for this occasion.

The Director of Department of Youth Affairs, Abdulrahman Mohammed Al Hajri, told Qatar News Agency (QNA) that the Department of Youth Affairs has prepared a busy programme on this important international occasion that the department keens to pay attention to annually. He pointed out that the activities of the Ministry of Culture and Sports on this occasion have been recorded on the international map of the United Nations, as Qatar is one of the most registered countries for activities in the region on this occasion so far, which is positively reflected on the state of youth in Qatar.

Al Hajri explained that all the activities held on the occasion of International Youth Day this year were prepared by young people, also targeting young people in Qatari society of different races and origins.

He stresses that the Ministry of Culture and Sports has succeeded in achieving one of its most important goals is to empower young people, where the youth system currently manages youth cadres, as many of them are working in the management of youth centres. He added that the youth have been prepared to be able to take over, which is a reality now, especially in such major events in various centres and clubs.

He pointed out that the events of the International Youth Day coincide with the second half of the activities of the centres during the summer. He praised the efforts and activities made by youth centres, where the centres were crowded at all levels and categories of participants so that some centres were unable to accommodate the numbers wishing to register and participate, adding that the Department of Youth Affairs refused to close the registration and worked in morning and evening shifts in addition to opening additional seats to accommodate the largest possible number of citizens and residents in activities that varied between sports, culture, entertainment and art, in order to develop the various skills and invest summer vacation time in the benefit of the youth. He highlighted that the department will release details on the number of participants.
