2026 World Cup bid: Trump to withhold support from nations backing Morocco
(MENAFN) President Trump has warned to stop supporting countries that backed Morocco in its bid for the 2026 World Cup, and did not provide support for the US joint bid with Canada and Mexico.
President Trump posted on Twitter "the US has put together a STRONG bid with Canada and Mexico for the 2026 World Cup."
The US president continued "it would be a shame if countries that we always support were to lobby against the US bid. Why should we be supporting these countries when they don't support us (including at the United Nations)?"
It comes after several Arab and African football federations have given their support to a bid Morocco made to host the major tournament.
