Oman- H E Bakri issues decision on random medical tests among workers in several sectors


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Abdullah al Bakri, Minister of Manpower has issued a decision amending some provisions of the Omani Labour Law related to occupational safety and health measures in establishments.

In the decision, H E Bakri has amended Article 24 of the Omani Labour Law to bring in the changes. As per the new decision, it is mandatory for firms in the oil and gas sector, the electricity and water sector, port and airport operators to undertake random medical tests in workers. 'Firms must ensure that work sites are free of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and alcoholic beverages,' the decision stated.

The decision is based on the Omani Labour Law issued by Royal Decree 35/2003 and the Regulations on Occupational Safety and Health in Establishments subject to the Labour Law promulgated by Ministerial Decision 286/2008.
