Arab League: Arab Women are extraordinary


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) CAIRO, March 7 (KUNA) -- The Arab League on Wednesday said Arab woman would remain an "extraordinary example at the international level in protecting countries and supporting societies' stability and security in the Arab region".

The organization praised the women role in Arab countries in a statement issued on the International Women's Day (IWD) falling tomorrow (Thursday).

The statement quoted Director of Women, Family and Children's Department of the General-Secretariat, Ennas Makkawi, as saying that this year's celebration comes under the theme, "Time has come for rural and urban leaders to change women life".

This also comes in recognition of women role in various aspects of life, and in all political, economic, and social fields, and of the efforts they exerted in "contribution to the progress and development of our societies," she said.

The Arab League this year concurrently with the celebration of IWD, held a ministerial conference on "Belonging and Legal Identity" as well as the 37th session of Arab Women Committee meeting, in addition to the regional preparatory meeting of the 62nd session of the Commission on the Status of Women, Makkawi said.

The Arab region suffers from conflicts, instability, Israeli occupation of the Palestinian lands, increasing refugees, which all boosted importance of women rights at all levels and put this issue at the top of Arab work priorities, she added.

Out of the League's keenness on offering Arab women all of their rights, it issued the "Belonging and Legal Identity" announcement to offer the citizenship rights along with enhancing commitment of respecting children rights in the Arab region, she said.

The Arab League will organize an international event on the sidelines of The 62nd session of the Commission on the Status of Women meeting of "empowerment of rural women in implementing the sustainable development agenda of women in the Arab region in 2030, Makkawi affirmed.

This comes to reflect the League's commitment to exerting all possible efforts to cooperate with all member states in support of women empowerment issues at the regional and international levels, to fulfil the progress and prosperity of Arab societies, she said. (end) mfm.hdr.tma.lb
