San Diego, CA - February 9, 2018 - Servant leaders are categorized as those individuals who are able to lead with a primary focus, putting the needs of other people before their own. Servant leadership philosophy was recorded as early as 570 BCE 490 BCE in the writings of Lao Tzu, an ancient Chinese philosopher and writer. While the modern practice of servant leadership really began to gain its notoriety in the early 1970s.

Using his passion for servant leadership, Art Barter demonstrated the power of his preferred leadership technique, not by lecturing or writing about it, but by doing it first.

After purchasing Datron World Communications in 2004, he began to dismantle the company's traditional power-led management style and replaced it with the servant leadership model. After years of hard work, not only were the employees of Datron happier, they were more efficient. As a result, Datron grew from a $10 million company to a $200 million company in just 6 years.

Barter founded the Servant Leader Institute and is a presenter at the organization's annual conference in San Diego this month. He is joined by five other presenters, including management guru Ken Blanchard and Dov Baron, described by Inc. Magazine as one of the Top 100 Leadership Speakers for 2018. The other presenters listed to speak at the event are Vicki Clark, Mark Miller and Joe Nayquonabe.

For the past seven years, the Servant Leadership Institute has presented servant leadership conferences to showcase world-class thought leaders and workshop presenters who are focused on telling their story and experience of servant leadership.

Past speakers include John Maxwell, Stephen M.R. Covey, Cheryl Bachelder, Gary Ridge, Liz Wiseman, Ken Blanchard, and our own Art Barter. In 2015, history was made at the conference when Blanchard, Maxwell, and Covey appeared on stage together for the first time.

The Servant Leadership Institute presents its annual conference Shift Into Drive: Navigating Servant Leadership on Feb. 19th and 20th 2018, at the Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina. For more information, see:
