Oman to get its tenth sports complex in Ibra


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Oman will get its tenth sports complex by 2020 when the proposed Ibra Sports Complex in the North Sharqiyah governorate is expected to be completed.

A deal to build the sports complex was signed by H E Sheikh Saad al Saadi, the Minister of Sports Affairs (MoSA), and Salim bin Aqeel Mohyeddin, CEO of Al Hashmi and Al Rowas Trading and Contracting, at his office on Monday in the presence of H E Rashad al Hinai, Undersecretary at the sports ministry.

At present, the existing sports complexes in Oman are located in Muscat (Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex), Khasab, Sohar, Salalah, Nizwa, Sur, Ibri, Buraimi and soon-to-be completed Rustaq. The MoSA has also built two stadiums – Seeb Sports Stadium and Al Saa'da Sports Stadium in Salalah.

The Ibra complex will be spread over 262,000sqm area. It will comprise a football stadium of international standards, with a capacity of 15,000 seats, a multi-purpose gym, an indoor hall for handball, volleyball, and basketball with a capacity of 1,100 seats, conference room and fitness rooms. There will also be an additional football training pitch, track for athletes, a ten-lane Olympic-size swimming pool with temperature control.
