Jordan backs Iraq in combatting terrorism after deadly blasts

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, Jan. 15 (Petra)-Minister of State for Media affairs and Government Spokesperson, Mohammad Al-Momani, said Jordan unequivocally backs Bagdad in its efforts to combat "heinous" terrorism that targets Iraq's stability and security, and slammed the twin terrorist attacks on a shopping center downtown Baghdad, which claimed the lives of at least 26 and injured scores.

In a press statement put out on Monday, the minister added these terrorist acts aim at sabotaging noticeable progress the Iraqi army has already achieved in fighting off terrorism, and underlined these attacks show the "immoral and hideous " nature of terrorists, and reiterate necessity to press ahead with warding off perils of this phenomenon to ensure a scathing victory conducive to security of the region and its people.

Al-Momani also expressed Amman's solidarity with Iraq in countering terror gangs attempting to ignite violence and infighting, and to destabilize the country.

He reiterated Jordan's firm stance calling for intensifying relevant regional and international efforts to combat terrorism within a holistic approach to tackle its root causes and phase it out entirely worldwide.

Al Momani also extended his condolences to the victims' families and hoped a speedy recovery to the wounded.

Al-Tayaran Square in central Baghdad early Monday saw a twin suicide attack perpetrated by two terrorists wearing detonative belts.
