The U.S. and Turkey now have one more point of disagreement following the U.S. decision to recognize Jerusalem as a capital of the Jewish state.

Turkey will make efforts to abolish U.S. President DonaldTrump's decision on Jerusalem, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said, Turkish media reported on December 15.

The issue of U.S. recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel will be submitted to the UN Security Council for discussion, according to the Turkish leader.

'Recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel is illegal, and we believe that the U.S. will cancel its decision, he said.

The summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on the Jerusalem issue was held in Istanbul on December 13.

According to the resolution adopted at the end of the summit, East Jerusalem was declared the capital of Palestine.

OIC also called on all countries to condemn the U.S. decision.

Earlier, Turkish presidential press secretary Ibrahim Kalyn said that OIC summit's resolution should not be viewed as a response to the U.S. decision on Jerusalem.

Kalyn noted that most Muslim countries, including Turkey, recognize East Jerusalem as the capital of Palestine.

Trump announced the recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and signed a document on the transfer of the American embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem on December 6.

This move caused great concern of the international community.

Israel, whose ministries, Supreme Court and parliament are in Jerusalem, has long demanded international recognition of its sovereignty over a unified Jerusalem.Israel calls Jerusalem its 'single and indivisible capital, including its eastern districts and historic center, repulsed half a century ago from Jordan and later annexed.

Israel proclaimed Jerusalem its capital after the end of the War of Independence in 1949. In 1967, after the Six-Day War, it seized East Jerusalem and united it with the Western, but the UN did not recognize this. Embassies of countries that have diplomatic relations with Israel are located mainly in Tel Aviv, Ramat-Gan and Herzliya.
