After an Indonesian woman died of her injuries from a fall in Singapore early this month, foreign domestic workers are being advised to take extra precautions when cleaning windows in high-rise buildings, a non-governmental organization said.

The Indonesian worker fell from the seventh story of the building in which she worked, and the police are still investigating the reason for the incident, Lianhe Zaobao (Singapore) reported.

The victim was said to have stood on a stool while rubbing clean the windows of her employer's apartment in Carissa Park on Flora Drive in Singapore's Tampines area.

The Centre for Domestic Employees said it wanted to remind all maids to be careful when carrying out their duties. Employers should provide proper cleaning tools, give clear instructions and supervise their helpers.

According to Ministry of Manpower guidelines, when a domestic worker is cleaning a window in a high-rise building, she should be attended by an adult, and should avoid standing on a chair or any object with wheels. The windows should be properly framed and at all times locked while being cleaned.

Meanwhile, all newly arrived foreign domestics will have to enroll in a "Settling-In Program", in which safety will be the first and most important topic.
