(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- Oliban, a new cosmetic brand launched its frankincense-based products at Grand Hyatt Muscat recently. The brand uses oil extracted from the fragrant resin Boswellia sacra (frankincense tree) found in Dhofar for its line-up. The aromatic resin is also an important element in religious rituals, aromatherapy and natural health products.
Known for its distinct woody, earthy, spicy and slightly fruity aroma, frankincense is considered calming and relaxing. The oil from the resin also has many health benefits. According to Dr Salim al Wahaibi, vice chairman for research and innovation, Oliban, the brand aims to create value-added sustainable products that define Oman's heritage.
'We use frankincense to develop a range of products. The inspiration comes from history and people who give us hope and positive push to achieve our dream. We would like to put this brand on the international map and build its reputation in the frankincense field. Our eye serum is an FDA-approved product and comes with a massager. The serum also helps lift eye contours through infrared rays.'
Elaborating on the importance of Omani frankincense, Dr Wahaibi said, 'Frankincense is considered very sacred as it was one of the three gifts given to baby Jesus. It is also known for its medicinal values and research is being done in various institutes locally and internationally to learn about its benefits. It is already known for its anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial and anti-wrinkle properties. We are utilising the information to develop our products further.'
Oliban currently has 21 products. Its first outlet will open at the Muscat City Centre. Products are priced between RO2 and RO25.
