Qatar- NHRC's 2015 report to be out soon
DOHA: Qatar’s human rights watchdog plans to urge the government to take steps to ensure further promotion of human rights.
The National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) has said its annual report for 2015 is to come out soon.
The last part of the report contains the Committee’s recommendations which will be submitted to the government. The recommendations underline the need to further promote human rights in the country. The Chairman of the NHRC Dr Ali bin Smaikh Al Marri said NHRC’s 2015 Annual Report will be published in the days to come and will be submitted to authorities.
It deals with a number of local legislations enacted last year with regard to human rights he said.
The Committee’s views on them as well as the activities it carried out in accordance with its Constitutive Law in terms of promoting and protecting human rights have also been included in the report. Al Marri pointed out that the last part of the report contains the Committee’s recommendations which will be submitted to the government. They urge further promotion and protection of human rights.
In remarks to QNA on the sidelines of an Award Ceremony of Martyr Ali Hassan Al Jabir held here on Tuesday night Al Marri praised the response of the government in implementing directives of Prime Minister and Interior Minister H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani for cooperation with the NHRC with respect to the recommendations to be submitted to the State Cabinet as part of the report.
Al Marri said an International Labour Organization (ILO) delegation was briefed about Qatar’s efforts on the rights of migrant workers when it recently visited the country.
Al Marri pointed out that the delegation’s report includes many positive aspects including those related to legislations and the efforts being made by the State.
The ILO report also includes a number of challenges which can be addressed he went on saying reports QNA.
Al Marri expressed appreciation for Qatar to allow competent human rights organizations to pay a visit to the country and assess its ongoing efforts on human rights saying that the Government has extended an open invitation to all UN Special Rapporteurs.
He appreciated as a commendable effort referring to the recent visits of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and the ILO delegation to Qatar during which both visiting delegations were briefed on the government’s efforts in enhancing human rights reports Qatar News Agency.
Three Palestinian contestants won the Award of the Martyr Ali Hassan Al Jabir in the three categories those of press photography documentary films and investigative journalism.
