KSA winning billions of hearts with donations
(MENAFN- Arab News) RIYADH: Saudi Arabia has topped the list of global nations that are supporting humanitarian works and it has recently donated 0.5 percent of its national income for the purpose Social Affairs Minister Majed Al-Qassabi has said.
The minister's statement came on the occasion of World Day of Humanitarian Action. 'The Kingdom spares no efforts in providing support to humanitarian issues across the globe representing its long standing policy of establishing world peace and cooperation between nations regardless of religion or ethnicity' he said.
Al-Qassabi expressed pride over the initiatives undertaken by Saudi Arabia for humanitarian causes and provision of aid to the affected areas especially countries facing natural disasters and conflicts such as Palestine Bosnia Syria Yemen and Pakistan.
The minister recalled a statement made by the supervisor of the International Commission of the Red Cross Steve M. that the Kingdom was the biggest supporter to human relief works and deserves to be called 'the Kingdom of humanity'.
Al-Qassabi said that SR245 billion worth of relief assistance was provided by the Kingdom from 1973 to 1993 to more than 100 countries adding that a similar amount was spent in the last 20 years as well.
The minister concluded his statement by commending the King Salman Center for Humanitarian Relief Works for its ongoing efforts in Yemen stating that the country will continue its humanitarian work as a legacy from the founder of the country King Abdul Aziz.
