IMA President lauds His Highness the Amir, Kuwait for UN award

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) President of the Arab World Institute (IMA) Jack Lang on Tuesday praised the decision of UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon to award His Highness the Amir, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, and the State of Kuwait a distinguished honour for their humanitarian work and their endeavours in the area of development.

Lang, who said he was heading to Kuwait in the coming weeks, also praised His Highness the Amir and Kuwait for their generosity in contributing to the cultural domain in France and he singled out His Highness Sheikh Sabah for being "the most generous donor to the Arab World Institute" in Paris.

"I am delighted by the decision of United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon to attribute the title of "Humanitarian Leader" to the Amir of Kuwait, His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, for his action in favour of development and of countries in crisis," Lang said in an exclusive statement here.

"This honour, largely merited, is to reward a Head of State and a country that is committed with force and constancy to benefit major humanitarian causes. I am thinking notably, in the recent past, of Syria," Lang told KUNA.

The IMA President went further in noting His Highness the Amir's constant support for culture and his generosity to French institutions. Indeed, Kuwait has been an erstwhile pillar of support for the Louvre museum and its Islamic Art Department and for IMA, itself, which was badly in need of funds for renovation of the museum and its works.

"His Highness the Amir has always supported culture and was the most generous donor to the Arab World Institute whose museum and library renovation he supported," Lang pointed out.

Expressing satisfaction at the UN awards, the IMA President said that he will soon be in Kuwait and hopes to have the honour of personally congratulating His Highness the Amir during his trip there.
