(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Ha may 27 (qna) - he the prime minister and interior minister sheikh abdullah bin nasser bin khalifa al-thani opened tuesday morning the 2nd arab water conference and the events associated to it at the ritz-carlton hotel.
the opening ceremony was attended by a number of their excellencies the ministers senior officials who specialize in the field of water a number of their excellencies members of the diplomatic corps accredited to the state of qatar and guests.
he the prime minister gave a speech at the opening of the conference in which he welcomed all the delegations participating in this important arab event stressing that the conference comes and the entire arab world is facing many water challenges including the lack of water resources and high rates of demand to meet the requirements of the development taking place in many arab countries that surpass the capacity of this limited resources especially in light of the steady increase in population.
he said that the government of the state of qatar under the wise leadership of hh the emir sheikh tamim bin hamad al-thani is working to provide the needs of the state of water in accordance with a clear policy and in the framework of a comprehensive strategy for the management of natural resources in order to achieve sustainability save the rights of future generations and develop the necessary infrastructure for the water sector to ensure the provision of water needs with a high degree of efficiency and in accordance with the highest international standards.
he the prime minister noted to the qatar national vision 2030 that aims to transform qatar into an advanced country able to ensure sustainable development decent living for its people and best long-term outcomes adding that in order to achieve those results at the level of the water sector qatar represented by qatar general electricity and water corporation (kahramaa) has launched the national program for conservation and energy efficiency (tarsheed) under the patronage of hh the emir to achieve an effective reduction of electricity and water consumption by the country's residents during five years.
he stressed that the conference is a great opportunity to support the programs of sustainable development in the arab countries expressing his confidence that the conference's outputs working papers discussions and recommendations would contribute to finding solutions to the many challenges facing the arab countries in the water sector.
at the conclusion of his speech he the prime minister called on to meet the aspirations and make more efforts to reach scientific and practical outputs and recommendations that can be implemented in the short medium and long term so as to provide a bright future and a safe and stable life for future generations.
