UAE- Four Emiratis rescued from desert
(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Â No water, a buried car with little fuel and stranded in the middle of one of the most difficult deserts in the world... However, four Emiratis narrowly escaped death thanks to the Abu Dhabi Police Air Wing rescue team.
The air wing team on Friday rescued the four men who were stranded at the top of high sand dunes between the Al Ain International Airport and the Nahel Desert.

According to the Abu Dhabi Police, the Toyota FJ Cruiser with the four youths was partially buried in the isolated desert dunes. Two of them were in critical condition and had to be flown to a hospital. The group got stranded about 6am on Friday, but the police got the report at 9.10am.
"It was a timely rescue operation. All the four people were rescued on time in one of the most difficult sand dune terrains in the country. Any delay could have ended in the loss of these lives, particularly at this time of the year when the temperatures get extreme high," said Brigadier Mohammed Al Mazroui, Director of the Abu Dhabi Police Air Wing. The official further added venturing out to wild deserts at this time of the year could be risky.
"These people were lucky having communication tools like mobile phones that helped us locate them, but with great difficulty due to the terrain," he said. Al Mazroui advised desert adventurers to either avoid outing during this season or at least have all the communication gadgets and emergency numbers.
"They got stranded at 6am and called their friends and relatives who were in bed at the time. When they made contact, the relatives and friends could not determine the location but reported the incident to the police," he said.
He also said they had no support as it was a lone vehicle in the middle of the desert. "They did not have water, but were lucky to have their mobile phones, which saved their lives," Al Mazroui said.
Mansour Al Darmaki from Al Khazna, a desert adventurer, was shocked to hear about the incident and said the patch of desert was one of Liwa's most dangerous terrains after Empty Quarter. "You have to be well-versed with these sands when you take out your vehicle. There you find sand dunes like Al Hajer Mountain Range that stretch along the UAE and Oman border from all southern directions," he said.
