Poles are being instructed to search for wood to heat houses

(MENAFN) Authorities in Warsaw have let individuals to scavenge for firewood in forests in order to keep their houses warm in the face of rising energy expenses. Poland is experiencing a coal scarcity as a result of a prohibition on Russian imports.

Deputy Minister of Climate and Energy Edward Siarka was cited by Next Gazeta as saying on Monday, “It is always possible, with the consent of foresters, to collect branches for fuel.”

Those who want to collect wood must first go through training and acquire authorization from the local forestry unit. The study clarified that individuals can only pick branches that are already on the ground and cannot tear down trees.

“Only branches can be gathered. At the same time, the collected branches cannot be thicker than seven centimeters,” claimed Katowice Directorate of State Forestry official Marek Mroz.

He indicated that the branches should be delivered to the local forester, who will bill them. Collectors will have to charge between seven and thirty zlotys ($7.02) every cubic meter of firewood.
