The funeral service of Je-Tonnia Thomas-Stephens took place at the Questelles SDA church in which mourners told News784 was a wonderful celebration of her life.

They told News784 that Paul himself played the piano at the service after the assigned pianist could not have made it.

But the drama unfolded at the cemetery when the body was already in its resting position and the song 'crown her with roses' was being sung.

Eyewitnesses to the event said that a man who was in the cemetery earlier walk back and forth looking at Stephens, made a howling sound from the road and then raced into the cemetery, and aimed at the Stephens' head with a stone, which caught him.

Eyewitnesses told News784 that the howl may have been a signal, because, following the first stone that hit Stephens, a number of men followed that individual and began stoning him.

A woman who was standing next to Stephens told News784 that one of the men throw a large building block, however that missed him.

News784 understands that It was following this that three women who were standing nearby started to shield Stephens, one even using her entire body to protect him from the mob.

One of three told News784 that she beseech the men to stop, while the rest began to cry out for help.

One of the women told News784 that other persons who were in attendance especially men just stood by without helping.

One of the women who assisted Stephen further told News784 that they manage against the odds to get the battered man out of the burial ground by sliding him down a bank unto the main road, where another woman who did not help in the cemetery ran with him to a car.

We were further told by the police that Stephens indicated to them he had no idea who the individuals were that attacked him.
