UAE- Zen tower update: Fire started by heat source in kitchen on ground floor

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Brigadier Rashid Khalifa Al Buffalasa, Assistant General Director of Fire and Rescue at the Civil Defence Department of Dubai, said that a preliminary report by the Civil Defense indicated that the cause of the Zen tower fire in Dubai Marina was due to a heat source in a kitchen on the ground floor.

Five officers were dispatched to the tower to ascertain the cause of the blaze. Fire consultants trained by the Institute of Canadian Justice were also brought in for their expertise, according to a report in the Al Bayan .

The wind speeds that day helped to fan the blaze, which happened on May 14, when hundreds of residents at Zen Tower in Dubai Marina were caught in a quandary after a fire gutted 15 floors of their building.

At about 10am the Dubai Civil Defence control room received a call about the fire and reached the site within six minutes. Despite the strong winds and dusty conditions, they managed to get the blaze under control after 45 minutes.

As of 9:30am on Wednesday, May 16, occupants from the Zen Tower were officially given permission to re-enter the residential building to retrieve their belongings, following the fire which broke out on Sunday.

Though some residents had been given supervised access prior to Wednesday to collect urgent items such as medication, the official retrieval process, in coordination with Dubai Police, commenced on Wednesday.
