Chinas C919 passenger jet successfully completes its maiden flight


(MENAFN- Bangladesh Monitor) Shanghai : The first large Chinese-made passenger jet took on its maiden flight on Friday, May 5 after 2.00 pm from Pudong international airport in the commercial hub amid cheers by thousands of crowd. After 79 minutes flying the jet landed back successfully .

The narrow-body twinjet airliner developed by the state run Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (Comac), designed to compete Airbus 320 and Boeing 737,can carry up to 168 passengers and having a cruise speed of518 mph. 128 feet long new aircraft has a wingspan of 117 feet.

Several key components of the new aircraft are imported –landing gear from Germany, interior from Austria and the engines are Franco-American .

Still it's a big step forward for Chinese Aviation industry in realization of the dream to compete with US and western world in the global aviation market. Though, COMAC has already received 570 orders and commitments from 23 customers, mainly Chinese-owned carriers and leasing companies, but the aircraft C919 needs safety approvals to secure a foothold outside of China.

After successful completion of the maiden flight the aircraft's manufacturer to seek certification from China's civil aviation authority and foreign regulators.
