Pakistan- Najam Sethi says PCB planning to set up cricket academy in FATA

(MENAFN- Tribal News Network) PESHAWAR: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Najam Sethi says a large cricket academy will be set up in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa soon, while the Board is also planning to establish a cricket academy in FATA.

In an exclusive chat with TNN correspondent Hanifullah, the PCB chief said an agreement has been signed with the KP government for establishment of a modern cricket academy on the pattern of cricket academies in Lahore and Multan. He said work on the academy will be completed on priority basis to provide better training opportunities to cricketers from the region.

Mr Sethi said despite shortage of funds, the PCB is planning to establish a cricket academy in FATA as cricketers from the area are very talented and they deserve better training facilities.

To a question, the PCB chief said he used to see cricket talent in Karachi and Lahore only, but the Pakistan Super League (PSL) has changed his perception now.

'Now I firmly believe that the cricketers from KP and FATA are very talented and hard working. The importance of FATA in the national cricket is increasing rapidly,' he said.

Mr Sethi said the PCB is committed to organise the playoff matches of the PSL in Lahore and final match of the mega event in Karachi. He said the International Cricket Council (ICC) has given security clearance for this purpose. He said like last year, the PCB has the option of utilising alternate players if international cricketers refused to come to Pakistan.
