(MENAFN- Colombo Gazette) /wp-content/uploads/2018/02/27375_PAK20141004ASMAJAHANGIR_1518348806168.jpg">Pakistani activist Asma Jahangir, who investigated Sri Lanka for war crimes, has died. She was 66 years old.
The 66-year-old lawyer and former UN special rapporteur died of cardiac arrest, the Pakistani media reported.
Asma Jahangir was one of three experts appointed by former UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay to carry out an international inquiry to look into alleged violations and abuses of human rights in Sri Lanka during the last years of the armed conflict.
A lawyer from Pakistan, Jahangir, is also a former President of Pakistan's Supreme Court Bar Association and of the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, as well as the previous holder of several Human Rights Council mandates and member of a recent fact-finding body into Israeli settlements.
Even after completing her role as a member of Navi Pillay's panel, Asma Jahangir followed the situation in Sri Lanka and continued to call for accountability over the incidents related to the war. (Colombo Gazette)
