India, Turkmenistan mull TAPI gas pipeline

Turkmen Foreign Ministry hosted a meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of India Azar Abul Hasan Khan, said the Turkmen ministry in a message Feb. 6.

The Indian diplomat presented his credentials.

The parties spoke about the high level of political and diplomatic cooperation between the two countries.

In this context, the role of high-level visits and work of the intergovernmental commission were also noted during the meeting, says the message.

The two sides also spoke about the role of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline. Construction of the Turkmen section of the TAPI gas pipeline began in December 2015. The design capacity of TAPI is up to 33 billion cubic meters of gas per year.

The total length of the TAPI pipeline will be 1,814 kilometers - a 214-kilometer section of the pipeline will run through Turkmenistan, a 774-kilometer section will run through Afghanistan and an 826-kilometer section will go through Pakistan.
