WHO: Alcohol can lead to seven types of cancer

(MENAFN) A warning on the relationship between alcohol use and the number of oncological diseases has been issued by the World Health Organization.

This publication was dedicated to the World Cancer Day, celebrated every year on February 4.

Alcohol can lead to at least seven types of cancer; cancer of the intestine (thick and rectum), breast, esophagus, larynx, liver, mouth and throat cancer.

According to the organization, ethanol, the main carcinogen in alcohol, damages the cells of the body and increases the risk of their malignant degeneration.

The use of alcohol and tobacco raises the risk of cancer several times; it is specified in the message.

The risk of breast cancer in women is increased by 50% if it drinks four glasses of wine per day, according to the reports.

Earlier in January, the development of cancer was associated with the presence in the tissues of the colon of the enzyme GalNAc-T6, which causes the cells to mutate, turning them into cancer cells.
