Jordan announces cutting ties with North Korea

(MENAFN) Jordanian authorities on Thursday announced they were cutting diplomatic ties with Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), the Official Gazette said Friday.

Approving the decision, a royal decree was issued by the cabinet to sever all diplomatic relations with the DPRK.

Jordan will withdraw its recognition of the DPRK's ambassador to Jordan who resides in Damascus, as well as terminating the duties of the Jordan's ambassador to the DPRK, who is based in Beijing.

Although no reason was cited for Jordan's decision, it will be conveyed to the DPRK authorities through the embassy in Beijing.

Several countries including the United Nations passed a resolution imposing sanctions on North Korea for its continued intercontinental ballistic missile testing and violations of UN resolutions.
