Sayyad appointed as new head of election commission


(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) KABUL (Pajhwok): Gulajan Abdul Bade Sayyad has been appointed as new head of the Independent Election Commission (IEC) based on the administrative board€™s election, an official said on Wednesday.

IEC member Syed Hafeez Hashimi told Pajhwok Afghan News elections for the administrative board of IEC were conducted before noon. Rafiullah Baidar and Sayyad were in the run for IEC chairman.

Waseema Badghisi ran for the commission€™s deputy head of operations, Syed Hafeez Hashimi and Mazullah Dawlati for the deputy chief of administration.

He said Sayyad, Badghisi and Dawlati secured four votes each. The position of IEC secretary was still vacant and would be filled in two days, Hashimi said.

President Ashraf Ghani dismissed the former IEC chief on Nov. 15, 2017 and appointed Hashimi as new member of the panel in line with a suggestion from the selection committee.
