Kuwait's crude oil exports to Japan down 16.4 percent

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) TOKYO, Dec 1 (KUNA) -- Kuwait's crude oil exports to Japan dropped 16.4 percent in October from a year earlier to 5.54 million barrels, or 179,000 barrels per day (bpd), for the first fall in two months, government data showed.

As Japan's fourth-biggest oil provider, Kuwait supplied 6.1 percent of the Asian nation's total crude imports, the Japanese Natural Resources and Energy Agency said in a preliminary report.

Japan's overall imports of crude oil declined 4.2 percent year-on-year to 2.93 million bpd, down for the third straight month. Shipments from the Middle East accounted for 87.7 percent of the total, up 0.7 percentage points from a year before.

Saudi Arabia remained Japan's No.1 oil supplier, but imports from the kingdom fell 7.9 percent from a year earlier to 1.16 million bpd, followed by the United Arab Emirates with 781,000 bpd, up 13.5 percent.

Qatar ranked third with 229,000 bpd and Iran fifth with 166,000 bpd, respectively.

Japan is the world's-third biggest oil consumer after the US and China, importing virtually all its fossil fuels. (end) mk.mb
