Japan: sumo champion to retire after assault claims
(MENAFN) Following a scandal that shook the sumo sport in Japan, sump grand champion Harumafuji has announced his decision to retire.
The champion is currently under investigation for the scandal he created in the sport in attacking junior wrestlers.
Harumafuji expressed his regret when he "apologised from [his] heart" to his fans, the governing sports body and his wife "for causing such trouble."
However, this hasn't been the single scandal in Japan's sumo spot, in recent years allegations of match fixing, violence and mafia links have overwhelmed the field.
