Oman- WCAS Concludes 1st National Symposium


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- Waljat college of Applied Sciences in academic partnership with Birla Institute of Technology, Ranchi, India, concluded the two day Symposium on 'Emerging Trends in Engineering and Management' on a high with a valedictory function on 14th November 2017.

The function witnessed the presence of some eminent personalities. Mr. Badr Saif Abdullah Al Kindi, Deputy Director General for Programs & Quality Assurance, Directorate General for Private Universities & Colleges was the chief guest and Mr. Mohammed Al Jabri , Manager ,Logistic and supply chain, AVOD, was the Guest of Honour on the occasion. Ms. Atiya Tabassum, the emcee of the function welcomed the chief guest, Guest of Honor, Dr. S.L.Gupta, Mr. Zaid Al Shukaili and all others who were present at the function.

The Symposium provides a forum to the students of HEI's in Oman to showcase their innovation and share current state-of-the-art in the emerging areas of engineering and management through student paper & poster presentation. A total of 53 papers in different areas were received and in that 25 papers selected for oral presentation and 23 for Posters Presentation.

In the Best Paper award category, the papers titled 'Preparation, Characterization and Evaluation of the Adsorptive Potential of Activated Carbon Derived from Waste Tea leaves' and 'Enhancing Oman Renewable Energy Using Smart Robot for PV Panel Cleaning' bagged the first prize. In the poster presentation category, the poster on 'Soap Synthesis from Agriculture Residue' was awarded the first prize.

Dr. P.Vijaya, the convener of Symposium thanked Mr. Badr Saif Abdullah Al Kindi ( Chief Guest), Mr. Mohammed Al Jabri (Guest of Honor), Dr. S.L.Gupta ( Dean,WCAS), Mr. Zaid Al Shukaili( Asst.Dean Admin & HR, WCAS),the presenters, staff & students, organizers of the event and all those who were instrumental in making this event a reality. She said that the guidance and support extended by the Dean, Dr. S.L Gupta was commendable.

She also extended her appreciation and gratitude to the sponsors of the symposium: Areej Vegetables, Bank Muscat, Khimji Ramdas group, Malabar Gold and Cochin Gold.

Dr. S.L. Gupta congratulated the organizing committee on the successful organization of the 1st National Symposium of WCAS.
