Observe super moon in Qatar on Sunday
Qatar residents can observe super moon whole night, from sunset on Sunday until sunrise of Monday, Qatar Calendar House (QCH) has announced.
The moon will arrive at full moon phase on December 3 at 6:47pm, the full moon on Sunday will be called 'super moon; where it will be at the nearest point of its orbit around the Earth (about 35,8000km from Earth's centre).
The full moon this month will be super moon as full moon phase will occur when moon passes near Perigee point (nearest point) on its orbit around the Earth, said astronomer expert at QCH, Dr. Beshir Marzouk.
Qatar residents will have a good chance to see super moon during full night; moreover they do not need astronomical instrumentation to observe super moon. It will be visible with our naked eyes, said experts associated with this matter from Qatar Calender House.
When a full moon phase occurs around Perigee (nearest) point, it's called a super moon and when it occurs around Apogee (furthest) point, it's called a micro moon or mini moon.
On this night, the super full moon will appear approximately 14% larger than a normal full moon. In addition, the illuminated area appears 30% bigger, so that it might look bigger and brighter than the normal full moon.
The super moon phenomena happen three times during 2016 and it will happen again on January 2 2018, according to the information provided by the experts at Qatar Calender House. Qatar residents are asked to make use of this opportunity to witness super moon.
