ABU DHABI, 29th January, 2017 (WAM) -- The Abu Dhabi Centre for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (ACTVET)
organised the sponsors forum for the WorldSkills Abu Dhabi.
At the WorldSkills General Assembly in 2013, EmiratesSkills was awarded the right to host the WorldSkills Competition in 2017.
The UAE is the first country in the Middle East to host a WorldSkills Competition, which takes place every two years in a different city around the world.
WorldSkills Abu Dhabi is the 44th competition and will be held at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre from 14 to 10 October 2017.
There are currently 75 member countries and regions in Worldskills, most of whom are likely compete in Abu Dhabi, including a strong UAE team. There are expected to be nearly 50 skill Competitions, with the UAE planning to enter contestants in over 30 of them.
ACTVET is the parent organisation of EmiratesSkills and the host of WorldSkills Abu Dhabi 2017. The event will be a landmark for the United Arab Emirates and will boost awareness of training and educational opportunities for young UAE nationals in the vocational sector. ACTVET's ultimate goal is increasing the number of skilled Emirati youths in rewarding career paths and foster lifelong learning and personal development.
The forum, which was attended by Simon Bartley, President of WorldSkills, members of the event organising committee, and representatives of the local and world sponsors, explored present and future opportunities and challenges before youths and methods to build and create national competencies.
Organisers urged companies to be part of the world's biggest vocational skills competition and invest in the future of the UAE.
Mubarak Al Shamsi, Director-General of ACTVET, said enthusiam shown by major international companies to sponsor the WorldSkills Abu Dhabi 2017 is a testimony of the UAE enjoyment of security and safety as well as social and economic stability and prosperity.
These factors, he affirmed, present guarantees to the success of industrial and economic projects.
'Opportunities offered by these companies deserve thorough and careful consideration so as to develop academic programmes
to produce national professionals who can seize these opportunities and accommodate job market demands for the post-oil UAE,' he added.
WorldSkills Abu Dhabi 2017 brings the world's biggest vocational skills competition to the Middle East for the first time.
Backed by government organisations, educational institutions and leading industry and business partners, WSAD2017 supports the UAE's vision of a thriving post-oil economy by preparing a generation of talented young Emiratis for the jobs of the future.
With a target audience of Emirati teenagers and their parents, the event will feature around 50 Skill competitions and activities in six core skill sectors: Construction and Building Technology; Creative Arts and Fashion; Information and Communication Technology; Manufacturing and Engineering Technology; Social and Personal Services and Transportation and Logistics.
WorldSkills Abu Dhabi will inform and inspire a new generation of Emiratis to explore and embrace the opportunities offered by vocational skills and training with the support of Emirates Skills and ACTVET, the Government body responsible for promoting training and education for young nationals.
The many thousands of overseas visitors and participants will enjoy an unprecedented opportunity to network and learn more about the economic background and expertise of the countries who form the WorldSkills family.
WorldSkills Abu Dhabi 2017 will boost relations and the exchange of knowledge between GCC countries, nearby Asian states and the MENA region.
Hosting the world's biggest skills competition in Abu Dhabi is integral to achieving the objectives articulated within the UAE Vision 2021 and Abu Dhabi Economic Vision 2023, showing how technical and vocational education will help meet the future challenges and demands of developing a diverse economic base and global competitiveness.
