Kuwait- Bill Seeks Free Education For All At Government Schools

(MENAFN- Arab Times) MP Faisal Al-Kandari has presented a draft bill to amend Article One of Compulsory Education Law Number 11/1965 to grant free education to everyone residing in Kuwait, not just Kuwaitis. The amended article states: "Education is compulsory and free for all Kuwaiti and non- Kuwaiti children, male and female, from primary to middle level.

The State must provide everything - human and financial resources including school buildings, books, teachers." In the explanatory note, Al- Kandari pointed out that on Sept 9, 2014, the United Nations named HH the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al- Sabah as International Humanitarian Leader and Kuwait as International Humanitarian Center.

Based on these titles and Kuwait's charitable nature, he presented the bill in order to allow citizens, Bedouns and expatriates to study in government schools for free. In another development, MP Saleh Ashour submitted questions to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Sabah Al-Khalid on the Saudi and Bahraini bloggers who allegedly offended Kuwait and its rulers.

He wants know if the Ministry of Foreign Affairs filed cases against these people, similar to what the embassies of Saudi Arabia and Bahrain have done against Kuwaiti bloggers. He asserted the ministries of foreign affairs in Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, through their embassies in Kuwait, filed cases against a group of Kuwait bloggers; accusing them of offending their leaders, interfering in their internal affairs and other allegations.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the Priorities Committee, MP Yousef Al-Zalzalah expressed disappointment for the postponement of the panel meeting scheduled for Sunday to discuss the work program of the Interior Ministry due to the absence of the minister and the undersecretary. He stressed both officials have yet to apologize for their absence, indicating the panel has forwarded a letter to the Speaker in this regard.
