3 army soldiers killed in wave of violence


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) At least three Afghan National army (ANA) soldiers were killed in separate Improvised Explosive Device (IED) attacks in the past 24 hours.

Spokesman for the Afghan Ministry of Defence (MoD), General Zahir Azimi said at least two ANA soldiers were killed following IED attack and direct enemy fire.

He said another Afghan soldier was martyred early yesterday in eastern Khost following an IED attack.

General Azimi further added another soldier was also injured following the incident which took place Yaqoobi area of Khost province.

In the meantime, Azimi said Afghan National Army forces conducted military operations in two different provinces in the past 24 hours.

According to General Azimi, at least six militants were killed during the operations and various types of weapons, ammunition and explosives, including 60 rounds of IED were seized.

The anti-government armed militant groups have not commented regarding the reports so far.

Khost is one of the 34 provinces of Afghanistan, located in the eastern part of the country next to Pakistan's Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA).
