France Investigates Possible Foreign Involvement in Wave of Airline Bomb Threats
(MENAFN) French judicial authorities have launched an investigation into a series of false bomb threats targeting dozens of commercial flights across Europe over the past week, with particular attention being given to the possibility of involvement by foreign governments.
The inquiry is seeking to identify those behind the threatening emails and establish whether they have any connections to foreign powers, according to statements from the Paris prosecutor's office.
Several of the reported incidents involved aircraft flying over French airspace, prompting authorities to examine the origin of the messages and assess any potential security implications. The French government has also confirmed that investigations are underway to establish where the threats originated.
Meanwhile, Ireland's government said Friday that fabricated bomb warnings sent to local media organizations were "likely" connected to a "co-ordinated campaign of disruption" associated with the threats directed at airlines.
No explosives have been discovered in any of the reported incidents so far, while investigators have yet to establish the identities of those responsible for sending the messages.
Some of the emails reportedly carried the signature "fighters of the Male State", corresponding to the name of a radical misogynistic organization in Russia. However, no verified connection has been established between the group and the threats.
The organization's founder, Vladislav Pozdniakov, rejected allegations of involvement, declaring on social media Friday that the "movement does not exist since 2021".
The incidents come as European governments remain increasingly alert to potential Russian interference targeting critical economic activities and everyday life across the continent, amid the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, which is approaching its fifth anniversary.
