Türkiye to Highlight Regional Cooperation at Southeast Europe Summit in Sofia
(MENAFN) Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will represent President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan at the Southeast European Cooperation Process (SEECP) Summit scheduled to take place in Sofia, Bulgaria, on Wednesday, according to Turkish Foreign Ministry sources.
The summit, hosted under Bulgaria’s rotating chairmanship, will bring together heads of state and government, foreign ministers from the 13 participating countries, and representatives of the Regional Cooperation Council, which serves as the initiative’s operational body. Participants are expected to adopt a joint declaration at the conclusion of the meeting.
The gathering is being held under the theme “Strengthening Regional Unity for a Stable, Secure and Sustainable Future: Reflections on 30 Years of Partnership and Progress,” focusing on long-term cooperation across Southeast Europe.
During his address, Fidan is expected to emphasize Türkiye’s commitment to strengthening regional cooperation based on inclusivity and shared ownership, while reaffirming Ankara’s view of the SEECP as a key platform for dialogue in the Balkans.
He is also expected to highlight the strategic importance of the Balkans in broader regional and international security, stressing the need to improve good-neighborly relations and deepen cooperation among participating states.
In addition, Fidan is expected to underline Türkiye’s support for infrastructure and connectivity projects, particularly in transport and energy, aimed at enhancing regional integration and supporting economic development.
Foreign Ministry sources indicated that he will also reiterate support for diplomatic efforts related to the Russia–Ukraine war and call for continued engagement between Iran and the United States in order to help reduce regional tensions.
