Nigeria Dismantles Major Methamphetamine Network with Mexican Connections

(MENAFN) According to reports, anti-drug authorities in Nigeria have broken up a large methamphetamine trafficking and production network allegedly linked to Mexican operatives, describing the operation as the country’s biggest meth seizure to date.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency stated that officers confiscated more than 2,400 kilograms of substances, including finished methamphetamine, liquid meth, precursor chemicals, and industrial solvents during coordinated raids in Ogun State and Lagos State.

According to reports, the agency’s Special Operations Unit carried out simultaneous operations following months of intelligence gathering and surveillance.

Authorities said one of the main targets was a hidden facility located in the Abidagba forest area within Ijebu East Local Government Area of Ogun State. The site was allegedly being used as a large clandestine methamphetamine laboratory operated by a trafficking network connected to suspected Nigerian drug figure Anochili Innocent.

NDLEA chairman Mohamed Buba Marwa reportedly estimated the international market value of the seized materials at approximately $362.9 million.

Marwa stated that the organisation “did not just traffic drugs” but was “actively manufacturing industrial-scale quantities” of illegal narcotics inside Nigeria.

According to reports, seven suspects were arrested at the forest laboratory, including four Nigerian nationals and three Mexican citizens. Authorities described the foreign nationals as “technical experts” who had allegedly been brought into the country to “cook this deadly substance.”

The alleged ringleader, Innocent, was reportedly arrested separately at a residence in the Lakowe area of Lagos State.

“The arrest brings to ten the total number of cartel members” currently detained, Marwa said, while warning international trafficking groups that Nigeria is “a hostile territory for their business.”

According to reports, the latest operation followed another recent crackdown targeting a separate drug production network allegedly headed by Simon Amadi in a multinational investigation involving authorities from the United States, Switzerland, France, and Greece.
