India Expands Energy Cooperation with US to Strengthen Energy Security

(MENAFN) According to reports, India is strengthening its energy partnership with the United States as part of a broader effort to secure stable and affordable energy supplies for its population, Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar said on Sunday.

He made the remarks after holding bilateral talks in New Delhi with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, where both sides discussed energy cooperation alongside wider strategic and economic issues.

Jaishankar stressed that ensuring reliable energy access remains a core national priority, noting the scale of demand driven by India’s population. He said the government’s focus is on maintaining affordability and uninterrupted supply, adding that diversified sourcing is essential to long-term energy security.

He also welcomed the recent expansion in energy trade between the two countries, according to reports, highlighting that broader supply diversification strengthens resilience in the energy sector.

The comments come amid ongoing adjustments in global energy flows and shifting trade alignments, including tensions linked to broader geopolitical disputes affecting traditional suppliers.

India has historically relied on a mix of suppliers, including Russia and Iran in earlier years, though its import patterns have shifted significantly due to sanctions regimes and changing international agreements in recent years.
