New Dead Sea Tourism Facilities Opened During Independence Celebrations
(MENAFN) According to reports, Jordanian Prime Minister Jafar Hassan officially opened the new Corniche and tourist beach developments in the Dead Sea on Saturday as part of events commemorating the Kingdom’s 80th Independence Day.
The Corniche project covers nearly 600 dunams and is part of broader plans aimed at expanding recreational spaces and improving tourism experiences for local visitors and residents travelling to the Dead Sea region.
The waterfront development includes a 1.2-kilometre promenade, a dedicated bicycle lane, seating areas for families, spaces for sports and entertainment activities, children’s play areas, and an outdoor theatre capable of hosting approximately 2,500 spectators during artistic and cultural events.
According to reports, the site also contains landscaped green areas, integrated service facilities, and parking areas that can accommodate more than 1,200 vehicles.
During the inauguration ceremony, the prime minister instructed concerned authorities to accelerate work on additional sports courts within the Corniche complex so they can be opened before the summer season.
The tourist beach project, situated around seven kilometres from the Corniche site, forms part of wider efforts to improve Jordan’s domestic tourism infrastructure and strengthen public facilities.
The development extends across approximately 240 dunams and includes a sandy beach area, four swimming pools, restaurants, commercial shops, visitor services, and parking facilities with capacity for more than 650 cars.
According to reports, the public beach underwent extensive redevelopment before reopening after remaining closed for over seven years. The location is now receiving an estimated 35,000 visitors monthly, reflecting increased public interest following the upgrades.
The completed developments also include a round-trip cycling route stretching eight kilometres, aimed at promoting recreational and sporting activities throughout the Dead Sea area.
