World Health Assembly Ends with Resolutions on Global Health Cooperation

(MENAFN) The 79th World Health Assembly concluded Saturday in Geneva after six days of meetings that resulted in the adoption of numerous resolutions and decisions focused on strengthening international cooperation in public health, according to reports.

Held under the theme “Reshaping global health: a shared responsibility,” the gathering approved more than 20 decisions and 13 resolutions covering a wide range of issues, including stroke, tuberculosis, antimicrobial resistance, emergency care, haemophilia, precision medicine, and radiation-related health matters.

In closing remarks, Assembly President Victor Atallah Lajam said the event succeeded in advancing its agenda despite growing geopolitical tensions, recurring public health emergencies, and mounting pressure on the multilateral system.

He said the assembly remained focused on its central objective of protecting human health and adopted major policy directions expected to have a direct impact on millions of people worldwide.

According to the remarks, particular attention was given to improving emergency preparedness and response systems, tackling antimicrobial resistance, encouraging innovation in Indigenous health, strengthening ethical standards in organ transplantation, and expanding protections and support for healthcare workers.

The assembly also held extensive discussions on emerging areas such as digital health, artificial intelligence, interoperability, and digital governance. Participants emphasized the importance of developing ethical and inclusive frameworks to support people-centered and technologically integrated healthcare cooperation, especially in fields such as precision medicine and diagnostic imaging.
