Clashes Erupt at Bilbao Airport During Arrival of Flotilla Activists

(MENAFN) Spanish police clashed with members and supporters of the Global Sumud Flotilla at Bilbao Airport, according to Spain’s public broadcaster RTVE, after tensions broke out during the arrival of several activists.

The incidents occurred when six activists from the flotilla arrived and gathered in the airport’s arrivals area for media coverage, reportedly causing disruptions and obstructing access for passengers at one of the terminal gates.

Police intervened after some supporters allegedly breached a security cordon, resulting in brief confrontations between officers and activists inside the terminal.

Authorities said four individuals were detained on charges including serious disobedience, resisting authority, and alleged assault on police officers. Those detained included both flotilla participants and supporters.

Regional security officials in Spain said an internal review has been launched to assess whether police actions complied with established operational procedures during the incident.
