Anna Grimaldi
- Lecturer in Global Development and Latin American Studies, University of Leeds
Anna joined the School of Politics and International Studies at the University of Leeds in June 2022 as a Lecturer in Politics and International Relations. She is now a Lecturer in Global Development and Latin American Studies. Prior to this, she held lecturing positions in History and International Development at King's College London. She received her joint PhD in Global Affairs from the University of São Paulo and King's College London.
Her research looks at the formation of transnational networks of solidarity with the Global South. She is particularly interested in how Latin America, including Cuba and Brazil, contributed to this phenomenon during the latter half of the 20th century through exile solidarity and human rights advocacy. She has published on the topics of liberation theology, pedagogy of the oppressed and indigenous rights.
Anna's published work engages with the legacy of the Cuban revolution. Her article, Introducing Remembrances of Tricontinental Pasts: Narratives and Artefacts of Global Cold War Social Movements, explores Tricontinentalism – a political movement formalised in 1966 Cuba. And her book, Brazil and the Transnational Human Rights Movement, outlines how Cuban revolution inspired new political identities and revolutionary fervour across Latin America.
