Nutrition Of Young Generation Will Shape Our Future: LG

(MENAFN- Kashmir Observer) Jammu- Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Wednesday said the nutrition of the younger generation will shape the future of the nation as he laid the foundation stone of Akshaya Patra's centralized mid-day meal kitchen in Katra.

Once operational, the facility will provide around 5,000 nutritious meals daily to school children.

Addressing the gathering, the Lieutenant Governor called for stronger collaboration between the government and social organisations to empower the younger generation and ensure that no child is deprived of healthy food.

“We must ensure that school children receive balanced, nourishing meals. Every child deserves access to healthy food and we need to make sure no child is left behind,” he said.

Sinha said the legacy of a society rests on three questions: what are we creating, what are we preserving, and what are we handing over to future generations. He said another important question must be added to that list:“What are we feeding our children?”

“The nutrition of our young generation will shape our future,” he said.

The Lieutenant Governor observed that a hungry child cannot learn and a school that cannot feed its children cannot genuinely create equal opportunities for progress.

He said decades of global research have shown that nutrition and education are deeply interconnected.

“Children who eat balanced and nutritious meals concentrate better, retain information more effectively and participate more actively in classrooms. Protein, vitamins and balanced diets provide the basic energy for thinking and understanding,” he said.

Sinha said providing nutritious meals in schools was not merely about filling stomachs but about shaping the future thinking of society.

“The next generation is not just our future but the living expression of the dreams and aspirations we wish to build as a nation. Their education, health and confidence are a collective responsibility of society,” he added.

The Lieutenant Governor also appreciated the work of The Akshaya Patra Foundation, describing it as one of the world's largest NGOs working in the school meal sector. The organisation currently serves over 20 lakh children across 16 states and three Union Territories.

On the occasion, Sinha also served meals to school students.

Among those present were Shri Bharatarshabha Dasa, National President and Trustee of Akshaya Patra Foundation; MLA Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Baldev Raj Sharma; MLA Reasi Kuldeep Raj Dubey; Principal Secretary to Lieutenant Governor Dr. Mandeep K. Bhandari; Commissioner Secretary School Education Department Ram Niwas Sharma; IGP Kashmir Bhim Sen Tuti; Divisional Commissioner Jammu Ramesh Kumar; DIG Udhampur-Reasi Range Shiv Kumar Sharma; Deputy Commissioner Reasi Kumar Abhishek and other senior officials.
